Latimer (D-Rye) was sworn in as Westchester County Executive on Monday and began his tenure with a flurry of activity.

The county executive, who defeated Republican incumbent Rob Astorino in November, issued an executive order removing the names and likeness of the County Executives from all County signage.

“These parks were here long before I came into office and will be enjoyed by residents long after I leave,” said Latimer, “Westchester’s natural beauty does not belong to one person. Westchester residents don’t care who gets credit for a project or who was in office when it happened, they just want to know that the needed work is done and that’s exactly how I intend to operate.”

He also announced a policy to make municipalities more involved in county decisions that impact their communities. The "Good Neighbor" policy would require the county to make a formal presentation of any significant proposed action on county land at a board meeting.

Latimer also formally requested New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli perform a full and open fiscal review of the county.

:“This will help pull back the curtain and show just exactly where we are," Latimer said. "We have a long road ahead of us – together – and to get on that road we need to know exactly where we are going."

A #MyWestchester campaign was also launched on social media.

An inauguration ceremony will be held at Westchester Community College on Sunday, Jan. 7 at noon at the Hankin Academic Arts Building Theater.
